Guidelines on the provision of adoption information
1. Application for disclosure of adoption information in accordance with Article 14 of the Enforcement Decree of the Special Adoption Act
For an adoptee (applicant) over 19 : The adoptee submits an application in person. Required documents include: Application form for adoption information disclosure, application form provided by the adoption agency and an identification card.
For an adoptee under the age of 19 : Required documents include: Application form for adoption information disclosure, consent from adoptive parents and a document that indicates the adoptee's agreement to request adoption information, a certificate that indicates the adoptee's age, a document that proves family relations between the applicant (adoptee) and the consenter.
Application procedure: The application form should be submitted by visiting the office. However, should this be impossible the application form can be submitted via regular mail, email and/or fax.
2. Procedure for the provision of adoption information
Provision of adoption background information: The adoption agency is to confirm the requested adoptee's file and provide the information. However, the provision of information which may contain the biological parent's personal information and other confidential information may be limited
Search for biological parents: Identify the biological parent's current whereabouts through the central adoption organization(Korea Adoption Services).
3. Notification of application result for adoption background information
In cases where biological parents consent to information disclosure: Requested information is disclosed. Support is provide via correspondence and/or meetings between the applicant and the biological parents.
In cases where the biological parents do not consent to information disclosure: Requested information is unable to be disclosed. Consultation service may be provided if necessary.
In cases where the whereabouts of the biological parents are unable to be identified: Requested information is unable to be provided.
